5 Critical Ways to Pack Light for Day Hikes

You’re huffing and puffing, but the house of three little pigs is nowhere in sight. It is very hard to enjoy the scenic view around you, since your backpack feels like it contains a cement block or two in it. Packing light? Mission: unaccomplished. Exhausted, you sit down on a large rock, to catch your breath. And you wonder what steps you could have taken to make your camping gear less of a burden…

Here are some simple tips to pack light for day hikes:

1. Create a lightweight list. Revisit your standard list of supplies for backpacking. Cross out luxury items that might enjoy at a Berlin Ohio hotel. That can include items such as down pillows and coffee mugs.

2. Eliminate necessary gear. Review and compare the equipment list of your hiking crew members. You will probably not want to share socks, but there is no need to bring duplicate items such as various cooking gear. This will just create added weight that will make your day hike in Berlin Ohio or another location, more difficult than it should be.

3. “Light” should not mean “unprepared.” In minimizing the gear that you tote with you on your day hike, it is important you remain prepared for the activity. Make sure to bring the following gear:

• Fire-starting equipment: This can weigh as little as one ounce!
• First aid kid: Besides tossing the kit into your backpack, make sure that you have mastered basic first aid procedures, such as treating minor wounds, and CPR.
• Food: Your food should be lightweight and provide tons of energy. Peanuts, beef jerky, and dried fruit are some options.
• Water purification equipment: Our bodies are about two-thirds water, and we need about 8-10 cups of water per day. Water purification gear can include items such as a small water bottle with filter.
• Extra clothes: This will help to keep you warm and dry in Berlin Ohio or elsewhere. Make sure to bring extra socks, in particular.
• Knife: this is useful for a variety of tasks, such as helping to start a fire and removing the core from a piece of fruit.
• Compass and map: Never assume that you cannot get lost wherever your hike, in one day. Both items should be waterproof. It is wise to store your map in a waterproof container.

1. Use specialized gear. Whether your next day hike is in Berlin Ohio lodging or elsewhere, you should consider Coleman’s line of Coleman Exponent. These products are specifically designed to lighten some of your camping gear. This will allow you to focus on your hiking, rather than your backpack and everything inside it. Coleman Exponent includes a variety of camping equipment items, including:

• Backpacks
• Cook kits
• Flashlights
• Furniture
• Grills
• Lanterns
• Sleeping bags
• Stoves
• Tents

These products are ideal for your day hikes in Berlin Ohio or another area, in both their form and function. They do what they were made to do, yet are light enough to make hauling them a cinch. For the day hiker who needs to hike up steep mountains, cross roaring rivers, or scale down deep gorges, Coleman Exponent becomes the camper’s best friend.

Before your day hike in Berlin Ohio Hotel or any other destination, make sure to pack light. Coleman Exponent products can help you to focus on the hiking itself. However, keep in mind that packing light does not mean cutting out hiking necessities. Saving a few ounces here and there is not worth getting injured. Happy day hiking!
